1939 Model 30M Norton - For sale

At dr George's site. George:"The ‘M’ denotes to “Full Manx specification”. The differences from a “Standard” International are: Paired down lugs on frame. Full wrap round oil tank (this one is a new alloy item). Larger petrol tank (this one is new alloy item, and slightly smaller). Magnesium crankcases, cambox, timing chest etc. Different flywheel and conrod. Hotter cams. Manx clutch, C.R. gearbox ratios. Conical front hub, with magnesium brake plate. Megaphone exhaust. And probably a few more variations which escape me at present."

"This bike was bought by Wilfred Caunce in 1939 to race at the Manx GP. The 2nd WW stopped all that, but Caunce hid the bike, to avoid it being commissioned for the war effort. He rode in the Senior Manx GP in 1946 and came 34th and the following year he was 40th, but there was a much larger entry in 1947. It is matching engine and frame numbers, original log book and V5C. Picture shows a replica petrol tank which will be replaced by the original. Totally rebuilt. Available when running in miles and road tests are complete. A rare opportunity to buy an original pre-war Manx with Isle of Man history and totally sorted."

Model 21-25 oil pump parts - For sale

On Ebay. Chance to buy a rare oil pump worm drive gear set and related parts which were originally fitted to a 1926 Model 21 OHV flat tank Norton, but which will fit also the TT Model 25 of the flat tank era. A similar arrengement is used on the early CS1 camshaft models and they may possibly suit this model or be modified to fit.

1929 Model Big Four Norton - SOLD

This 1929 Big Four featured in an earlier blog. Bob:"I have now finished this Norton, a lovely machine; fitted new magneto, mains, fork bushes, wheel bearings, valves, piston and rebore, spokes, original registration and V5C, tyres, tubes, clock in tank, etc etc. Simon checked the numbers with the Works Records and it's the original frame to engine. But I have a problem, I can't hold her up or kick her over without doing more damage to a recent knee operation. I was going to put a chair on but the wife has a change of mind. I think I will have to sell. I'm looking for serious offers. Anyone interested should email John who will forward the emails to me."

1928 Model 24 - For sale

For sale at Verralls; a flat tank Norton described as an original 1928 Model 24. I've never seen one before but when the description is correct the dry-sump 588cc engine (!) sitting next to it would originally have been fitted. The 4-speed box is correct for this model. There were a few 588 dry-sump ES2 engines made/sold by Nortons; it is only the differing main shaft diameters which means that standard 588 flywheels can't be used in ES2s so in that respect it could be correct. A very interesting flat tanker with a hefty price tag at £21,500 (for which off course you also get the spare Model 18 engine).

Ian Hatton:"It's a 588cc OHV with the Model 25 type recirculating oiling system. Standard Model 18 engine is presently fitted but I have included a pic of the oil tank to show the return oil line. Obviously the external oil pump is not correct. Also has a four speed cross over gearbox. I believe all these details to be original."

1923 Model 18 cylinder head - For sale

Chance to buy a rare very early OHV Norton cylinder head dating from October 1923 (stamped 23/10).  This head has had valve seat inserts fitted at some stage in its long life, and has regrettably sufferd a fair amount of fin damage which will need to be repaired, but the head (including the threads on both inlet and exhaust ports) is basically in sound condition. 1929 Model CS1 Norton - Sold

Currently for sale on eBay Germany; a 1929 CS1 Norton. Engine: CS 427XX. Frame: 349XX. Gearbox:  Sturmey Archer HW 142190 TT. According to the vendor the machine was shipped to Berlin in 1929 in racing trim. It looks like a nice specimen though the barrel could be from another model as it just doesn't fit the vertical shaft tube very well. Simon:" It looks quite good although fitted with an incorrect KD1 BTH mag and kickstart end cover on gearbox. Also the footrests look like short ex-WD ones and surely that's a 7 inch front brake?"

Sold for 24.659 euro.

1902 Norton Energette - For sale

This Norton comes up for auction in New Zealand with a price tag of 75.000 to 95.000 Euro. The description suggests it's a genuine machine discovered in the 1940s but unfortunately it has been restored to a condition from which it is hard to tell how old it is and which parts were fitted by James Lansdowne over a century ago or by a bloke in New Zealand last year. Below is part of the description from Webb's, the auction house.

"The machine’s recent history starts in 1945 when Russell Miell saw the bike while collecting scrap metal for the war effort; it was hanging in the roof of a workshop in Kingsland. Some 15 years later, the machine came to Russell in return for a good deed. As Russell undertook the task of bringing the machine back, he found the word ‘Norton’ stamped in small characters on the pedal crank casing. The chassis number 289 was located also. Although the machine was basically complete when first obtained, Mr Miell had to remake some parts such as the fork stem and the extra control levers, using the two bronze examples that were with the bike as patterns. The original tyres, which were still on the machine when restoration began, were white beaded-edge rubber that could not be replaced so 26”x2”x1 3/4” tyres on modern rims are presented. The behind-seat petrol tank is marked ‘Essence’, which betrays its French origin, and was originally nickel plated like many other parts of the bike including the cylinder barrels."

Gears anyone?

Ben and Marcus Deutscher: We noticed a recent post on the blog with a request for expressions of interest for 17 tooth gears at 150 pound each. We've had a look at the photos and feel that we might be able to do the job at a significantly lower price than the 150 pounds as this is the sort of work which we specialise in. We are professional gearcutters with an interest in Nortons who would be interested in quoting for the job. We've been manufacturing gears for Big Port AJSs, P model Triumph, Rudge and close ratio BSA sets for a number of years. We also made some Sturmey Archer 1st gears.

Gears anyone?

Geoff:  "I am looking for a 17 teeth gear for my Sturmey Archer CS gearbox. O/D is 1.825", width is .5625", centre hole I/D is .750", it has six splines in the centre hole (.8625") and goes on the layshaft which has a six splined section which is just under .8625" O/D to take the gear. I can get some made for £150 each...but I need to order five to get them at this price! So if anyone wants one, let me know (via John)"
